About Us

About Banana Yoga

Our Story

In the wake of a changing post-pandemic world, we saw our community spaces vanish in and the doors to accessible yoga studios close all over the Bay, and especially her in Oakland. We felt the void—the loss of those "third spaces" where people could simply exist, connect, and breathe without the pressure of a corporate environment.

Banana Yoga was born from a simple, radical mission: make yoga more accessible to everyday people. We believe that yoga isn't a luxury; it’s a powerful tool for self-love and collective healing. That’s why we’ve built our foundation on a sliding-scale model ($20–$30) and affordable memberships, ensuring that the practice remains accessible to the town we love.

Yoga Practice Not Yoga Perfect

Whether you’re looking for the heat of a rigorous Power Vinyasa or the quiet stillness of Restorative yoga, our doors are open to you. Our instructors aren't here to push you into the most "advanced" pose; they are here to offer your unique body the support and guidance it deserves. We champion the use of props, the power of modifications, and the belief that yoga is a way to re-learn how to love ourselves for everything our bodies do for us.

Rooted in Our Community

We believe that the energy we create on the mat should extend far beyond our four walls. We are proud to regularly support and partner with local schools and organizations that make the East Bay a more vibrant, and beautiful place to live, including:

We have regular community-centered offerings including:

  • Community Tea & Yoga Chats: A free monthly forum to discuss yoga philosophy and life. Every 4th Friday of the month at 7:30pm

  • Yoga for the Queer Community: every Tuesday at 7:30 PM.

See our Events page for our full list of events/gatherings.
